The situation in the Middle East remains elevated as the U.S. and Israel continue operations against Iran and Iranian retaliatory actions continue across the region. Following the announcement of the new Iranian Supreme Leader as Mojtaba Khamenei, there is an increased likelihood of escalating U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
The Israel Defense Force (IDF) announced it struck more than 200 targets in western and central Iran over the past day in 20 wide-scale waves under Operation Roaring Lion, targeting ballistic missile launchers, air defense systems, and weapons production facilities. Saudi Arabia intercepted approximately 50 Iranian drones, a drone struck Dubai International Financial Centre, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Islamic Resistance of Iraq claimed the downing of a US KC-135 refueling tanker in western Iraq.
